After you copied QuoEdit’s folder to your hard drive, please double click Run Me First which does three things for you:
1. Throw away unnecessary QuoEdit version
2. Prepare guide files
3. Prepare “About” contents
And if you have older version of QuoEdit, throw the older version’s folder away to the trash by yourself. But if you have added your own files or folders into the older version’s folder(s), move them to the newer version’s folder(s) before throwing them away. If you have added menus to the QuoEdit, don’t forget to move the menu definition files in the Menus folder to the newer version’s folder. And if you have customized the Tools menu or the Extras menu, don’t hesitate to overwrite Tools file or Extras file with your customized version.
That’s all. (But if you have two or more startup disks or you are going to use QuoEdit's Menu utility on system earlier than Mac OS 8, see “Installation” page in the QuoEdit Guide.)
As the QuoEdit is an easy-to-use application, you can use it right now. But for the detailed information, seeing sometimes the guide is recommended. To open the guide, double click Open Guide file that is created by the Run Me First program.

But if the “Run Me First” doesn’t work...
AppleScript (including standard osaxen) may be unavailable or your Finder may be too early version. If you started the computer with extensions off (holding down Shift key), restart it with extensions on and try again. Otherwise, please do the following by yourself.
1. Throw away unnecessary QuoEdit version
The archive of QuoEdit includes the application of both PowerPC (PPC) version and 68K version.
◊ If your computer is Power Macintosh, throw QuoEdit.68K away to the trash.
◊ If your computer is 68K Macintosh, throw QuoEdit away to the trash and rename QuoEdit.68K to QuoEdit just deleting the last four characters. Remaining "QuoEdit.68K" will discourage using AppleScript scripts.
If you are not sure which is the proper version, try double clicking on the QuoEdit. If the application launched successfully, keep that version and throw QuoEdit.68K away.
2. Prepare guide files
1) Make an alias of file named index.htm in the QuoEdit Guide folder, rename the alias to Open Guide, and move the Open Guide to the application’s folder. If you have any utility to change creator signature of file (like ResEdit, for example) and if you prefer Internet browser other than the Internet Explorer, change the creator signature of the index.htm file to one of your favorite browser.
2) If your computer runs Mac OS 8.6 or later, make an alias of QuoEdit Guide folder into the Help folder in the system folder of your startup disk without changing the name. To do that in one step, command+option+click the QuoEdit Guide folder and drag it into the Help folder.
3) If your computer runs Mac OS earlier than Mac OS 8.6, QEdt Guide in the application’s folder and QEMn Menu Guide in Miscellaneous folder are unnecessary. Move each file into Guides folder in the Miscellaneous folder.
3. Prepare “About” contents
Make an alias of a picture file named “About QuoEdit ...” in Miscellaneous folder, move the alias to the application’s folder, and rename the alias to exactly “About QuoEdit”.
Now, you have almost done what the Run Me First program does. But it would be better for you to install AppleScript (including standard osaxen) with Finder version 7.1.3 or later to take advantage of the useful features.
And finally, put this Read Me file away to the Miscellaneous folder.
